Female hostel at Catholic University burgled

Sunyani (B/A) Dec. 13 GNA - Professor James Ephraim, Vice Chancellor of the Catholic University at Fiapre in Brong Ahafo, has described a recent robbery at the university's female hostel as part of 'societal chaos'.

He expressed regret that the trauma caused to the students could not be replaced but said the Police and other security agencies were strengthening security at the institution. The Brong-Ahafo Regional Police Command has said a Police patrol team would run surveillance at the various hostels of the university and cautioned the students to walk in groups. The Vice Chancellor recommended that each student must own a whistle that could be blown when attacked. Prof. Ephraim noted that the robbery incident occurred just when he had been inducted into office as Vice Chancellor and pledged to work to redeem the university's image. In an open forum, Mr Clement Srakuma, Mathematics Lecturer, asked the students to have prepared text messages and use them when attacked. Some students condemned the security arrangement in the University and recommended that young and energetic persons be engaged instead of old and weak men.

The student representative council also expressed sorrow at the fate of the female students and pledged to give them their support and goodwill.
