Father who assaults son appear before court

Assin Foso (C/R), Nov. 28, GNA - An Assin Fosu District Magistrate's court has bonded Thomas Akwasi, a trader 24 months to be of good behaviour for assaulting his eight-year-old son for returning late from a place of convenience.

Akwasi who pleaded guilty, would in default serve nine months imprisonment.

The court presided over Mr Joseph Blay in addition, directed the accused to pay 120,000 cedis a month, for the child's maintenance, education and medical expenses.

The prosecution's case was that on October 12, this year, Akwasi accused his son of returning home late from a place of convenience therefore, he locked his son in a room and assaulted him (son). He said residents in the area who heard the cries of the boy, forced the door open and found the boy with severe injuries and rushed him to the Assin- Foso Police who sent the victim to St Francis Xavier Hospital where he was admitted and is still on admission.
