Father, Son grabbed with guns

Ibrahim Imoro and Abdul-Aziz Imoro Ibrahim Imoro and Abdul-Aziz Imoro

A 50-year old blacksmith Ibrahim Imoro and his 20-year old son Abdul-Aziz Imoro have been arrested by the police for possessing quantities of locally manufactured shotguns.

Mr. Ibrahim who has gained notoriety in supplying weapons to residents in the region is believed to have been doing that for over a decade now.

His cover was blown when one of his clients fingered him for a weapon he was caught with.

Upon that information, the police travelled to Nyankpala, a suburb of the Tolon District to arrest him but were met with fierce resistance as Imoro and his son engaged the police in a gun battle. The duo were subsequently overpowered.

Giving a chronology of events leading to the arrest of the father and his son who is a second year student of the Vittin Senior High School in Tamale, the Northern Regional Police Public Relations Officer (PRO) ASP Ebenezer Tetteh disclosed that a case was lodged at the police station against one Karim Kadiri, a self styled magician.

The self-styled magician was alleged to have taken about GHc 3,500 from the complainant in the case under the guise of doubling it for him within a fortnight but failed to deliver on his promise.

Several efforts to retrieve the money proved futile as Karim Kadiri kept postponing the days blaming the delay on some spiritual items he was trying to obtain to complete the process.

Dissatisfied with the numerous excuses, an official complaint was lodged with the police who dispatched personnel to Chilifoyili, a suburb of the Tamale metropolis for the arrest the suspect.

On seeing the police, the suspect rushed into his room and failed to open the door despite several calls until an unusual sound was heard from the room suggesting the suspect was trying to arm himself.

According to ASP Tetteh, the police forcibly opened the door and spotted the magician with a fully loaded locally manufactured shotgun ready to pull the trigger but he was outsmarted and arrested. He mentioned Ibrahim Imoro as his supplier and led the police to his residence where he and his 20-year old son were also arrested.

All three would be arraigned before court for possession of firearms without lawful authority.
