Farmer remanded in prison for beating his wife to death

Odoben (C/R), May 23, GNA - The Breman Asikuma Magistrate Court has remanded a 57-year old farmer from the town in prison custody for beating his 38-year old wife, Beninda Ofori to death at Odoben. The plea of Ebenezer Nyarko was not taken and will re-appear before the court presided over by Mrs Andy Cynthia Hammond on May 28 2010.

The fact of the case as presented by Police Inspector Ransford Obutey Cobbina was that, on March 31, 2010 a misunderstanding arose between the two couples which later resulted in a severe beating by the accused person.

Inspector Cobbina said Madam Ofori later reported the case to the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit at Breman Asikuma on April 8 2010, where they were advised to live peacefully as husband and wife. According to Inspector Cobbina on April 12 2010, the woman suddenly collapsed and was rushed to the Odoben Health Center and was referred to the Our Lady of Grace Hospital at Breman Asikuma. She was however pronounced dead on arrival by the health authorities.

Inspector Cobbina said, pathology report from the Central Regional Hospital at Cape Coast indicated that the deceased sustained severe head, neck and abdominal injuries and internal bleeding as a result of the assault. He said the accused was re-arrested and charged with murder.
