Farmer remanded for raping a married woman

Kumasi, Aug 27, GNA- A 40-year-old farmer, was last Thursday remanded into prison custody by a Kumasi Circuit Court for allegedly raping a 28-year-old married woman. Kofi Marfo's plea was not taken and would re-appear before the court on September 14.

Police Chief Inspector Wilfred Salia, prosecuting, told the court presided over by Mr Richard Mac Kogyapwah, that both the victim and the accused are farmers at Awiem-Sawuah near Kumasi. He said on August 18 this year around 1400 hours, the victim went to the bush in search of hay for her animals, when Marfo emerged from nowhere, pounced on her and forcibly had sex with her. He said after the act, the accused dragged her deeper into the bush and had sex with her again.

Chief Inspector Salia said Marfo, who was not satisfied, dragged the victim to another area and repeated the act for the third time. The prosecution said the victim then became helpless and the accused swore by the god of the Awiem-Sawuah stream that she would die if she discloses her ordeal to anyone. Chief Inspector Salia said a Good Samarian who later appeared at the scene took the victim home where she narrated her ordeal to the husband.

A report was made to the Asokwa police and a medical form issued to her endorsed the act. The accused was arrested and after investigations charged with the offence.
