Farmer jailed for unlawful entry and stealing

Sunyani (B/A), Sept. 3, GNA - The Sunyani Circuit Court 'B' on Wednesday sentenced Kwadwo Tieku, alias Maalo, a 29-year-old farmer to three years imprisonment in hard labour, for breaking into a store and stealing items worth millions of cedis.

Tieku pleaded guilty to the charges of unlawful entry and stealing and was sentenced to 18 months imprisonment on each count to run concurrently.

Prosecuting, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) David Kwaku Amoako told the court presided over by Mr Kwasi Gyamfi that, at about 0130 hours on August 31, this year, the complainant in the case, Mr Paa Kwasi, a trader and another witness heard an unusual noise during a heavy downpour.

He said when the two got up, they found the accused, who had broken into the storeroom of one Aunti Yaa and packed six pieces of jewellery rings, nine body sprays, seven pieces of tie-and-dye materials and 15 Nina hair products into a polythene bag.

The prosecutor said Mr Paa Kwesi raised an alarm and with the help of other people arrested and escorted Tieku to the police station.
