Farmer in court for murdering woman at funeral

Kade, Oct 27, GNA - A 52-year-old farmer, Kwabena Okae, also known as Kwabena Dapaah, was on Wednesday arraigned before the Kade District Magistrate Court charged with murdering a woman at a funeral at Adankrono. Okae was said to have shot Adwoa Owusua, 50, at a funeral in the town. His plea was not taken and he was remanded in prison custody until November 09. Police Inspector Francis Cobbina told the court that on October 23, the body of one Kofi Boadi was laid in state at a family house. He said the accused went to the family house holding a gun, which he fired "sporadically and indiscriminately". He was warned to stop but he did not heed the warning and he continued firing. The prosecutor said when Osabarima Oware Asare Dinkrah III, Chief of Apinamang, was dancing at the funeral ground, the accused started firing again. Mr Cobbina said Okae pointed the gun at the deceased as his target and as the woman was dancing to meet the chief a bullet hit her. She was taken to the St. Dominic Hospital at Akwatia where she was pronounced dead soon on arrival.
