Farmer arrested for murder

Kade, April 4, GNA - Peter Kwabena Ampiah, a 37-year-old farmer, who cut off the head of a man who had recently been seen moving with his former girl friend had been arrested by the Kade police. Ampiah admitted being responsible for the murder of Kwaku Afoakwa, 35, last Tuesday at Okumaning Aboabo in the Kwaebibirem District. He however, told the police and newsmen that there was no question of his action being influence by jealousy. Ampiah said he did not know what made him to commit the crime and felt sorry and regretted his action. He said he and Asantewa, 29, the woman at the centre of the controversy, parted ways about 10 years ago after a three-year relationship and that he had no intention of re-uniting with her. Last Tuesday, Ampiah visited an Akpeteshie distillery where the victim, a palm wine taper, was working and he picked a cutlass nearby and severed his head.

The police said Ampiah after committing the crime then ran into the bush but the Assembly member in the area, Mr Robert Amuzu, organized a man-hunt which succeeded in arresting him in a cocoa farm on Friday. He was then handed over to the Kade police who are investigating the case. Asantewa is however, helping the police in their investigations. Meanwhile the body of the deceased had been deposited at the mortuary of the Saint Dominic Hospital at Akwatia.
