Farmer Charged with defilement set free

Asamankese, May 7, GNA - The Asamankese Circuit Court has acquitted and discharged a 29-year-old farmer, Jonathan Aviseh who appeared before the court charged with defiling a girl, aged 15. Aviseh on his first appearance in court pleaded not guilty saying the girl was his girl friend who was more than 16 years old. The Judge, Mr Emmanuel Siameh then asked the prosecutor, Detective Chief Inspector X.C. Okorey to find out the true age of the girl, a Junior High School pupil.

On the adjourned date, the prosecutor informed the court that the girl was indeed 18 years old. The prosecutor said Aviseh was then acquitted and discharged. Prosecution had earlier told the court that Aviseh had lured the girl twice into his room, gave her GHC 5.00 on each occasion and had sexual intercourse with her.

He then warned her not to tell anybody about their relationship. Prosecution said On February 15 at about 2000 hours, the accused invited her to his room to have further sexual intercourse with her but the wife of the accused chased her out of the room. He said Out of disgrace, the girl left town and resurfaced on March 20.
