Farmer, 56, remanded for defilement

Juaso (Ash), Dec. 22, GNA - A 56- year old farmer accused of defiling a nine year old girl at Konongo has been remanded into prison custody by the Juaso Circuit Court.

Baasare Sulemana pleaded not guilty and would re-appear on January 7, 2012.

Police Detective Inspector Eric Kobla Atatsi told the court presided over by Justice S. K. Sarpong Appiah that the complainant is the mother of the victim and an ex-lover of the accused and as a result of that the woman’s children are fond of the accused and see him as a father.

The prosecution said on November 4, at about 1500 hours, the accused invited the victim who was then playing outside with her two younger siblings to follow him to the house to collect some oranges, which she did.

On reaching the house, the accused lured the victim into his room and sexually abused her after which he cautioned her not to tell anyone about it. He gave her the oranges and promised her GH¢1.00.

Police Detective Inspector Atatsi said a day after, the mother noticed a change in the victim’s gaiety and the way she walked and sought to know from her what had gone wrong.

He said the little girl reported of her terrible experience with Sulemana and thus a report was made to the police where he admitted the crime in his caution statement
