Farmer 26 defiles niece

Asamankese, June 5, GNA - A farmer, Kwadwo Galigo, aged 26, being tried by the Asamankese Circuit Court for defiling his 12-year-old niece, will know his fate on July 17 when the court will pronounce its judgment. Galigo pleaded not guilty.

Prosecuting Police Chief Inspector Kate Ogyiri, said Galigo, a married man lived in the same house at Kordorbeda, a village near Asamankese, with his grandmother and his niece. She said in April last year, the accused took the victim to the bush and forcibly had sexual intercourse with her, promising to give her GHC 3 but he failed to do so. He however asked her not to tell anybody about her ordeal. The prosecutor said a month later, Galigo again invited the girl to the bush and had sex with her for the second time and warned her to keep it secret.

Shortly after the second act, the girl's grandmother traveled and Galigo's wife also left for the farm and with no one else in the house, Galigo invited the girl into his room with a firm pledge that this time round she would have the promised amount. The prosecutor said as the two were seriously engaged in the sexual act, the wife of the accused walked in, cutting short the act. The girl managed to escape, leaving husband and wife to engage in a heated argument, resulting in a fight.

On arrival of the girl's grandmother, she was told of the incident, and she in turn made a report to the police and the accused was arrested. Galigo however denied ever having had any sexual intercourse with the girl and called his wife was his witness. But when the police investigator went to look for the wife at the village, he was told the woman had gone to Togo and would be unavailable to appear in court to give evidence. 05 June 10
