Ex-convict remanded for stealing.

Sekondi, Sept. 2 GNA - A Sekondi District Magistrate Court on Thursday remanded an ex-convict into prison custody until September 5 for sentencing.

Isaac Essel, 28 who was released after completing an 18-month prison sentence this year for stealing pleaded guilty to stealing a sheep at Apowa near Takoradi.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Joe Hedidor told the court that following a tip-off two policemen on duty at the Apremdo barrier on August 1 arrested the accused with a sheep hidden in a wooden box on an Urvan bus.

Police Inspector Hedidor when the bus with registration number WR 1022 P arrived at the barrier, upon routine check Essel claimed ownership of the box and claimed it contained cassava but when it was opened found a live sheep in it.

At the same court, Francis Dovi, a 25-year-old driver's mate was granted five million Cedis bail for allegedly assaulting a second year student of the Mpohor Senior Secondary School. He pleaded not guilty and would re-appear on September 15. Prosecuting Police Inspector Hedidor said on the evening of June 26, the accused who lives in the same neighbourhood with the victim at Mpohor invited her to accompany him (Dovi) to collect a parcel from her uncle sent through him (Dovi) at his house.

He said when they reached Dovi's house, he requested to have sex with the victim who refused.

Police Inspector Hedidor said Dovi angered by her refusal beat up the victim.
