Ex-convict jailed 16 years for stealing

Kumasi, May 19, GNA - A 22-year-old ex-convict has been sentenced to 16 years imprisonment by a Kumasi Circuit Court for stealing items worth Gh¢1,600.

These included a laptop, two mobile phones and a cash of GH¢10. Kofi Twum, who was released from prison three weeks ago for a similar offence, pleaded guilty to unlawful entry and stealing. Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Mary Nana Adwoa Affanyi told the court that the convict hails from Darbaa near Akropong in the Atwima-Nwabiagya District where Stephen Adusei, the complainant also teaches.

She said on April 30 Twum stole a laptop and a mobile phone from the room of Mr Stephen Adusei, a teacher, and from there he went to the room of another teacher, Mr Eric Marfo and made away with his mobile phone and GH¢10.

As he escaped through a window, Mr Marfo woke up from his sleep and raised the alarm and this attracted some young men who arrested him. 19 May 09
