EFFISCO final year student stabbed to death

Derrick Emmanuel Adjei, a form three Business student of the Effiduase Secondary Commercial School (EFFISCO) in the Ashanti Region, who was said to have left the school compound on Wednesday night to watch an English Premier League, was stabbed by some unknown assailants suspected to be armed robbers.

Police Superintendent Asare Bediako, the Sekyere East District Commander, confirming the incident to the Ghana News Agency said the deceased popularly known as ‘Tiger’, on that day, together with a friend (name withheld), allegedly scaled the school wall in an attempt to run away to town to watch the football match, when they were reportedly accosted.

According to the Police Commander, the deceased’s friend upon interrogation told the police that, the gang attacked them behind the school wall and demanded they surrendered all they had on them, which he obliged and gave them all the GHC2.00 on him, but his friend insisting he did not have anything, struggled with them and was stabbed in the neck in the process.

He further disclosed that in the ensuing struggle, he saw deceased being pierced with a sharp object like a knife or scissors at the neck, scared by this, he took to his heels to the Effiduase town.

Bleeding profusely from his wounds, the deceased managed to climb the wall back to the School compound and fell behind this dormitory block as he could not make it to the dormitory for help, Superintendent Bediako said.

He said the deceased was sighted by a student whose calls for help attracted the Senior Housemaster of the school and some other staff and deceased was rushed to the Effiduase Government Hospital.

He was however pronounced dead upon arrival.

Superintendent Bediako assured that his team has begun thorough investigations to identify the assailants and bring them to book. He also urged the students, parents and people in the locality to remain calm as the Police was on top of the situation.

Madam Mary Boatemaa Marfo, the District Chief Executive (DCE), in an emergency meeting with the family of the friend, School authorities and other stakeholders of the School, called for full cooperation in order to identify and arrest the assailants.

She expressed her deepest condolence to the bereaved family and assured that her office together with the police and all stakeholders will do everything to get to the bottom of the matter and bring the perpetrators to face the law.

Ms. Grace Amoh Agyei, the Headmistress of the School also speaking at the meeting, expressed deep shock and regrets about the situation and urged all partners and stakeholders of the School to help strengthen security on the compound to avoid a future occurrence.

She disclosed that there had been an earlier visit by the School authorities and District Assembly to the bereaved family at their residence to formally inform them about the incidence.
