Driver jailed for slashing the brother with a cutlass

Kumasi, May 8, GNA - A Kumasi Circuit Court had ordered a 46-year old driver to be kept in jail for six years for inflicting multiple deep cutlass wounds on his brother.

Ali Bukari, alias Ali Mohammed, pleaded guilty to charges of using offensive weapon and unlawfully causing harm last Friday.

Police Chief Inspector Samuel Kwabena Nkrumah told the Court presided over by Mr Justice Richard Mac Kogyapwah that the complainant, Awudu Bukari, is a driver and lives at Esaso near Adankwame with Mohammed.

For about three months now, their relationship had been cold and both were not talking to each other.

He said on May 2, at about 2000 hours, the complainant returned from work, and as he sat outside his room to enjoy the food he had brought to the house, Mohammed all of a sudden turned off the light. Bukari told him he was using the light but the convict ignored him.

The complainant therefore switched back the light on and this angered Mohammed, who picked a cutlass, attacked and slashed him in the neck, shoulder, stomach and hands.

The prosecution said people in the neighbourhood responded to his cry for assistance and succeeded in rescuing him.

A report was made to the police and Mohammed was arrested whilst Bukari received treatment at the hospital.
