Driver in court charged with stealing

Asamankese, Dec. 5, GNA - The Asamankese Circuit Court has granted 5,000 Ghana cedis bail with one surety to Kwadwo Boamah, a driver who stole 250 Ghana cedis from a farmer. Boamah, 45, pleaded not guilty and will re-appear on December 11. Police Chief Inspector Francis Cobbina, prosecuting, told the court that Boamah and one Kwame Asare, now on the run, tricked Mr Enoch Addo and removed 250 Ghana cedis from his pocket. He said Mr Addo, a resident of Kwae, visited Kade with the amount on him to pay for waybill in respect of drinks he had purchased. Mr Cobbina said Asare convinced Mr Addo that he had won lotto and was looking for the Office of "Asare Original Pay All", a private Lottery company, to collect his money. He said when the complainant replied that he was a stranger and did not know the location of that office; Boamah suddenly appeared at the scene to say he could show them the office. The prosecutor said Boamah asked Asare to give him some lotto numbers, which he did and the two managed to convince Mr Addo that they could help him win a fortune. As they were chatting with him, the two men removed the amount from the complainant's pocket. Later Mr Addo realised that the money had gone and shouted but Asare escaped while Boamah was arrested and taken to the police station. Boamah said the money was with Asare but when he was asked to lead the police to arrest him, he claimed he did not know his exact place of abode.
