Driver fined for not possessing Assembly documents

Tuobodom (B/A), Aug. 22, GNA - A Magistrate court at Tuobodom in the Brong-Ahafo Region on Thursday imposed 1.5 million cedis fine on Paul Mensah, a taxi driver for failing to procure Techiman Municipal Assembly licence and sticker.

Mensah, who pleaded guilty, would go to jail for six months in hard labour in default.

Prosecuting, Police Inspector Comfort A. Nyamesah told the court, presided over by Mr George Kroffah Addai that on August 6 this year, personnel of the Municipal Assembly arrested the accused for not processing the documents.

Insp. Nyamesah said the personnel issued summons for the accused to appear before court but he failed to honour the invitation and a bench warrant was issued for his arrest.

Imposing the fine, Mr Addai said the Assembly's developmental efforts would be affected if people failed to honour their tax obligations and warned that defaulters of Assembly levies if brought to court would face the full rigours of the law.

He ordered that one million cedis out of the fine, if paid, should be given to the Assembly.
