Driver fined for failing to produce license

The Half-Assini Magistrate Court on Friday imposed a fine of 240 Ghana Cedis on a driver who failed to produce his driving license to policeman on duty.

Ackah Kodwo, 21, a native of Ellenda near Tikobo Number One, who pleaded guilty, will in default serve three months imprisonment in hard labour.

Prosecuting, Police Sergeant Isaac Ebo Otoo, told the court presided over by Mr Abdul Majid Illiasu that at about 15:20 hours on Friday July 17, the accused person driving an Opel Vauxhaul mini-bus, arrived at the Samenye Security Check Point in the Jomoro District.

Sgt Otoo said the driver was coming from Aiyinase towards Tikobo Number One, carrying four passengers.

He said the accused person was asked by General Police Corporal Richard Amoah to produce his driver's license for inspection, but he refused.

The prosecution said Kodwo told the policeman that the licence was his property, and would only produce it for inspection if the police officer produced his identification card.

He said the driver gave his name as Ackah Kodwo, and when asked by the police to appear before the Half-Assini Magistrate court on Tuesday July 21, he refused.

The court therefore issued a bench warrant for his arrest on July 22, and he was subsequently arraigned before the Court on Thursday July 23.

Passing sentence on July 24, the magistrate said since the accused person was a first offender, he was dealing leniently with him.
