Criminal gunned Down

NOTORIOUS CRIMINAL GUNNED DOWN AT TANOBOASE

A 24-year old gang leader, Kwabena Konadu who had for many years tormented the lives of traders and other business persons on Techiman –Tamale highway, robbing them of moneys and personal belongings running into several millions of cedis and other foreing currencies on Wednesday, 13th December, 2006 met his untimely death when he was gunned down by unidentified expatriates at Tanoboase.

According to detective police officer with Techiman command who spoke to Classic news under the basis of anonymity, the late Konadu affectionately called Alexo, leader of three armed robbers started trailing a Burkinabe truck fully loaded with goods from Techiman with a tico taxi cab.

According to him, on reaching Tanoboase portion of the high way, they crossed the truck, blocked the road with logs, and forced the driver to stop, in the process the four men hastily pounced on them, robbed them of undisclosed amount of CFA Francs. However luck eluded them as those on board the vehicle engaged in a fierce battle with the hardened criminals.

Though it was deep in the night, the encounter attracted unspecified number of youth in Tanboase from afar. The police office further explained that as the youth approaches, three of the robbers managed to escape with the money leaving behind their boss. But in attempt to continue the battle, Konadu was shot twice on both legs leading to his instant death. The case was therefore reported to the police the next morning and as a result the body was taken to Techiman Holy Family Hospital and later to Wenchi Methodist Hospital’s morgue. Meanwhile many people in the commercial capital especially traders, security men included on hearing the death of Alexo’s jubilated due to his bad track record.

When contacted at his Abuorso residence, a suburb of Techiman, the mother of the decease, Madam Ama Gyamfua expressed grave concern over her son’s death stating that he is not a hardened criminal. According to her an innocent man has been killed at the wrong time for no wrong doing and called on the police to conduct investigation into the matter. The police had since mounted intensive surveillance in search of the runaway robbers. The general public has been appealed to help trace their where about.
