Criminal cases at Tepa on the rise

Tepa (Ash), Jan 22, GNA - The Tepa District Police Administration handled 1,307 criminal cases in 2007 as compared to 831 in 2006, which represents an increase of 63.5 per cent. Out of the total number of cases, 169 are still under investigation, 408 were settled out of court, 365 were prosecuted in court, 313 involved convictions and 15 were acquitted and discharged whilst 37 were still awaiting trial.

Assistant Superintendent of Police Stephen Awuah Baffour, Ahafo-Ano North District Police Commander, told the GNA in an interview that cases handled by the police included assault, stealing, threats of harm and death, offensive conduct, causing unlawful damage, fraud, rape, defilement and robbery.

Assault cases topped the list with 298 followed by stealing which stood at 211, offensive conduct 181 and threat of harm 108. He said 21 motor accident cases occurred during the year under review and that two of them resulted in the death of two people.
