Court sentences two for possessing 'wee'

Tarkwa (W/R) Aug 1, GNA - A Tarkwa Circuit Court on Tuesday sentenced Kwame Adoko, alias Kwame Pepe, an unemployed to 10 years' imprisonment in hard labour for possessing nine wrappers of Indian hemp. He pleaded not guilty.

The court also sentenced Kwame Namawor, an accomplice to five years' imprisonment for possessing two wrappers of the drug. He also pleaded not guilty.

Inspector Joseph Agbedor of Ateiku police, told the court presided over by Mr. John Ajet Nasam, that on May 17, 2006, the Police had information that some 'wee' syndicate were peddling drugs in the town and two Policemen were detailed to monitor their operations. Inspector Agbedor said in the course of monitoring, the Police spotted Namawor exchanging money for something from Adoko and he was immediately arrested.

A search conducted on him revealed that two wrappers of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp. The prosecutor said Adoko bolted on seeing the Namawor has been arrested.

Namawor led the Police to the room of Adoko where nine wrappers of the drug were found. The Police however arrested Adoko the following day and he admitted being the owner of the drug.
