Court remands unemployed for use of narcotics

An Accra Circuit Court has remanded Joshua Nortey Akosen, unemployed, in police custody for using narcotic drug without lawful authority.

The accused person pleaded not guilty and would reappear on December 10.

Prosecuting Chief Inspector K. Adu told the Court presided over by Agboagye Tandoh that complainant in the case is a policeman stationed at Kaneshie District MTTD.

He said on November 20, the complainant with two other men in Muftis were on patrol at Awudome Cemetery area due to the rampant snatching of bags in the area, when they spotted the accused person loitering around.

He said they confronted the accused person about his mission there but he failed to give any tangible reason.

“He was subjected to a search of which a wrap of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp was found in his pocket,” he added.

Chief Inspector Adu said the accused person was, however, brought to the police station, where he admitted ownership of the substance but failed to tell the police the source of supply.
