Court remands twins for stealing electric cables

Tema, July 07, GNA -- The Tema Circuit Court 'B' on Monday remanded Jonathan Larweh and Jonathan Atteh, both driver mates into police custody for stealing 16mm electricity copper wires measuring 140 meters at Ashaiman.

Larweh and Atteh who are twins and reside at Zongolaka, a suburb of Ashaiman were remanded to re-appear on July 23, after pleading not guilty to the charge of stealing.

Chief Inspector Daniel Nortey, prosecuting told the court, presided over by Mrs Amanda Aikins that on June 29 at about 0330 hours the twins went to Soneto another suburb of Ashaiman and removed three fuses from the area transformer, climbed some electric wooden poles and cut off the electricity wire.

Prosecution stated that Larweh and Atteh were subjected to severe beatings when they were caught engaging in their activities which rendered the whole area into total darkness. The two accused persons who were rescued by the police denied the allegation in their caution statement. 07 July 08
