Court remands trader for causing harm

Ejisu (Ash), Aug 7, GNA - A magistrate's court at Ejisu on Thursday remanded a 34-year-old trader at Donyina for causing harm. Kwame Kusu pleaded guilty and will re-appear on August 12.

Police Chief Inspector Ofori Takyi told the court presided over by Mr Noble Nkrumah that at about 0800 hours on July 25, this year, one Attah Kofi, a driver and the complainant, was seeing off his visitor and on reaching the outskirts of Donyina town, he heard someone calling him from behind.

He said when he turned he saw Kusu and one Paa Piti running towards them.

Chief Inspector Takyi said the complainant and his guest stopped and on reaching them, Kusu asked him to fight with Paa Piti with whom he had a previous quarrel.

The prosecutor said the complainant told the accused that the differences between him and Paa Piti had been resolved and therefore there was no problem between them.

Chief Inspector Takyi said this statement did not go down well with Kusu who took offence and slapped the complainant.

He said when the complainant enquired from the accused why he slapped him, he gave him another slap and challenged him to a fight if he was a man.

But before he could respond to the challenge, Chief Inspector Takyi said his guest restrained him but the accused, who was highly infuriated, booted the complainant and he fell down. He pounced on him and stabbed him on the jaw.

He said the complainant's guest, Kofi Amponsah managed to separate them and took him away while the accused, realising that the complainant will make a report to the police rushed to the police station first to report that the complainant had assaulted him.

The prosecutor said soon after, the complainant also got to the police station with his bloodied jaw to report the attack on him the police gave each one of them a medical form to attend hospital and return later with their witnesses.

Chief Inspector Takyi said, however, that Kusu failed to return with both his medical report form and witness, while the complainant returned with his medical report form and witness.

He said following this development, the accused was arrested and charged with the offence.
