Court remands murder suspect

Hohoe, June 29, GNA- A magistrate court at Hohoe on Monday remanded into prison custody, Vinatus Kakraba Kwadwo, a 50-year-old unemployed man, for allegedly murdering a 55- year-old farmer, at Likpe Bala in the Hohoe district. Kwadwo, who is believed to have murdered Fritz Dzasimatu pleaded not guilty and will re-appear before the court on August 3.

Police Inspector Emmanuel Kpodo told the court, presided over by Mr Samuel Budu that on May 30 this year, the accused spotted the Dzasimatu entering his (accused) girlfriend's room. The prosecution said Kwadwo then remarked "you are again in my girlfriend's room, we shall see", and vanished into the dark and rainy night.

Inspector Kpodo said at about 2230 hours the same day, Kwadwo went to the deceased's cottage at Daflebe and forced open the door and set fire to his room destroying his belongings. According to the prosecution, during the early hours of May 31 this year, Kwadwo met Dzasimatu at the outskirt of Bale and attacked and killed him. He dragged the body across the road into the bush, stripped it naked and set it on fire. Insp Kpodo said another farmer who found Dzasimatu's body partially burnt under a tree reported the matter to the police.
