Court remands alleged murderer at Effutu Nsuakyere

The Winneba Magistrate’s Court has remanded one Fred Botchway, 26, who allegedly beheaded a 12 year old boy at Effutu Nsuakyere in Effutu Municipality in police custody.

Botchway alias Kwesi Akum plea was not taken and the court remanded him to assist the police in their investigations.

Prosecuting, Police Detective Sargent Peter Agbelie told the court presided over by Charles Owusu Nssiah that the complainants are Mr. Patrick Yawson and Mr. Charles Bonney, whilst the deceased, Solomon Yawson is a class six pupil of Nsuakyere Methodist School.

The accused, also a family member of the deceased, live in the same community at Effutu Nsuakyere.

The prosecution said on Sunday, August 24, 2014, at about 0830 hours, the accused Kwesi Akum and the deceased left home to a coconut plantation farm in the area.

According to him, at about 1500 hours when they had returned from the farm, the father of the deceased Mr. Bismark Yawson sent for them, but those he sent returned to inform him that they saw only the body of Bonney with multiple cutlass wounds without his head, lying in a pull of blood.

Detective Police Sgt. Agbelie the said family members quickly rushed to the farm and found the lifeless body of the boy but could not locate the whereabouts of Kwesi Akum.

He said a formal complaint was made to the police, who accompanied them to the scene, adding that, when a search was conducted they found the head of the deceased in a sack hidden in the farm.

He said the body was deposited at the Winneba Trauma and Specialist Hospital for preservation and later sent to Accra for autopsy.

The prosecution said on August 26, the accused was apprehended by the natives of the town at his hideout in a bush, in the area, and handed over to the police.
