Court remands Motor rider for robbery

An Accra Circuit Court on Tuesday remanded one Stanley Awudu alias Tanko into police custody for conspiracy and robbery.

Stanley, who pleaded not guilty would reappear on May 17.

Inspector Samuel Ahiabor, prosecuting, told the court presided over by Aboagye Tandoh that the complainant in the case is an Excavator Operator, residing at Obuasi-Mangoase in the Ashanti Region.

He said the accused person is a motor rider residing at Agbogbloshie, Accra.

He said on April 19, the complainant came from Obuasi to visit his wife at Chorkor and on reaching the UTC Metro Mass Terminal, he asked the accused person to send him to Chorkor.

The Prosecution said on their way, the accused asked the complainant that he hoped he would not send him to an area where they would snatch his motor bike, but the complainant answered in the negative.

He said upon reaching a section of the road, accused person made a call and spoke an unfamiliar language and on reaching the Ghana National Fire Service Training School around James Town, two other men on motor bikes had parked at the junction; precisely around the Bukom Boxing arena.

Inspector Ahiabor said the accused also parked beside the two men and complainant sensing danger wanted to run away, but one his legs was held by one of the two men on the other bikes.

The Prosecution said “Accused Person also held the complainant’s shirt on the neck and attacked him; in the process his bag containing cash sum of GHS 1,950.00, one Khaki trousers, a mobile phone valued at GHS600.00 was taken away from him”.

He said after the act, they bolted but the complainant met a Police patrol team from the Accra Regional Command and reported the case to them.

He said on their way to the Police Regional Headquarters, the complainant saw the accused person with a pillion rider, he was able to identify the accused together with his Motorbike and the dress he was wearing.

The Prosecution said the Police then chased and arrested him.
