Court orders tutor to refund money

Awutu (C/R), April 10, GNA - A District Magistrate's Court at Awutu, presided over by Mr Kofi Ahiabor, on Thursday ordered Stephen Senayo, a former tutor of the Great Lamptey Mills Senior High School to refund a total of 10,000 Ghana Cedis he collected from students of the School. Sanayo, 30, who pleaded guilty, was refused bail because he could not tell the court how he was going to get the money. He would re-appear on April 17, 2008, when he was expected to bring the money.

Police Chief Inspector Helena Aidoo, appealed to the court not to grant bail because at the time of going to court, a number of students were making similar complaints to the police. The prosecution said the police could carry out further investigations if the accused was remanded into custody. Chief Inspector Aidoo said between October and November last year, the accused collected a total of 10,000 Ghana Cedis from 35 students with the promise of registering them with the West African Examination Council (WAEC) to enable them to sit for this years' West African Senior High School Examination. She said, the accused could neither fulfil his promise nor refund the money to the students.
