Court jails farmer for a crime he forgot

Dormaa-Ahenkro (B/A), July 11, GNA - A 32-two year-old farmer at Amasu, near Dormaa-Ahenkro, had the shock of his life when he was arrested at Amasu Police Station where he had gone to report of a threat on his life by a neighbour.

The Dormaa Circuit Court had issued a bench warrant for Kwadwo Gyabaa also known as Koo Minenea's arrest in June 2010 for attempting to defile a 14-year-old primary six girl on his cassava farm near Supong.

Inspector Bismarck Boye Lartey told the court presided over by Mr Alexander Osei-Tutu that the Complainant's wife requested for some cassava sticks from the accused, who asked the victim and her two brothers to accompany him to the farm for the sticks.

Insp. Lartey said while on the farm, the victim requested for some tubers of cassava and the accused took her to another farm where he attempted to defile her.

Prosecution disclosed that the victim's father became worried over the delay of his children on the farm and decided to follow up. "On the farm, the victim's father bumped into the accused on his knees struggling to have sex with his daughter", Prosecution added.

Insp. Lartey said the accused vamoosed at the sight of the complainant but was arrested by the Police on a bench warrant on June 8, 2011 when he went to report a threat on his life. The Court sentenced the accused to eight years' imprisonment.
