Court jails animal thief nine months

Sekondi Nov. 21, GNA - A Sekondi District Magistrate's Court on Monday jailed Edward Bachino nine months in hard labour for stealing a sheep valued at 350,000 cedis.

He pleaded guilty.

Hamidu Mohammadu, who was being tried with Bachino for dishonestly receiving, pleaded not guilty and was remanded in prison custody to re-appear on December 12 this year.

Prosecuting, Police Sergeant Andam Okyere said at 1830 hours on October 26 this year, Edward Sowah, the complainant detected that one of his sheep was missing at his home at Kojokrom where Bachino also lived. He said the complainant mounted a search for the sheep and on the following day saw the sheep tied at a filling station.

Sgt Okyere said the complainant reported the matter to the Police and Mohammadu was arrested during investigations. He said Mohammadu told the Police that Bachino sold it to him for 120,000 cedis.

Sgt Okyere said Bachino was also arrested and admitted the offence in his cautioned statement to the Police.
