Court issues bench warrant for arrest of chainsaw operator

Hohoe, March 2, GNA - A Hohoe Circuit Court has issued a bench warrant for the arrest of Kotoka Gaana, a chain saw operator who jumped bail while on trial for robbery and defrauding by false pretence. Gaana, whose plea was not taken, was granted bail in the sum of GH ¢ 2000 with two sureties on December 4, 2008, to reappear in a week's time, which he failed to do.

The court presided over by Mr Edward B. K. Apenkwa has therefore issued a bench warrant for his arrest. The facts presented by Mr Samuel Gbedemah, Chief Inspector of Police were that one Akpene Hortunu sought the assistance of Gaana to supply 120 pieces of sawn lumber and 25 facial boards intended for roofing a building under construction. He said on September 3, Gaana was paid GH A2 855 and he promised to deliver the wood products within one week but came up with excuses. Mr Gbedemah said, complainant then reported the case to the police and after investigations Ganna was charged with the offence.
