Court acquitted and discharged Winford Owuo

Kumasi, April 17, GNA - Winford Owuo alias "CD" has been finally acquitted and discharged by a circuit court in Kumasi from the charges of causing harm, damage and stealing which were later substituted with robbery.

He was charged for allegedly attacking Kweku Appiah also known as Appiah Stadium, a New Patriotic Party (NPP) activist but he pleaded not guilty.

The court struck out the case based on Appiah Stadium's willingness to forgive CD and let go of the case. Supporters of CD who filled the court room to capacity mobbed him and poured Talcum Powder on him as a sign of victory. The jubilant crowd also poured on the principal streets of Kumasi to celebrate CD's release.

It would be recalled that CD was arrested by the Ashanti Regional Police in March 2009 and was arraigned after police investigation. He was refused bail on three occasions by the court presided over by Mr Emmanuel Amo-Yartey until April 17 2009. The Kumasi Circuit Court could not hear the case on all the occasions CD appeared before it because of a controversy arising between the counsel and the prosecution over the transfer of the case from a police prosecutor to a state attorney for prosecution.
