Court acquits and discharges driver

An Accra Circuit Court on Monday acquitted and discharged Samuel Badak, a driver for conspiracy to commit robbery.

The court, after a full trial found Samuel not connected to the crime, hence acquitted and discharged him.

Chief Inspector K. Adu told the Court earlier that the complainant in the case is a Chinese National and a Sales Manager at Dada Foods Company Limited.

He said the accused person, who is a driver, works at the same company.

The Prosecution said on July 24, the complainant was on board a jack truck being driven by the accused person conveying products to Accra to sell.

He said on their return around 16 hours and on reaching a section of the road along the community 18 bypass on the Accra-Tema motorway, the accused person alleged that the engine was overheated and stopped to put water in the water tank.

Chief Inspector Adu said few minutes later, two men with each having two cutlasses emerged from the bush and attacked the complainant and bolted with his bag containing GH¢ 7,600.

He said the complainant suspected the accused person and reported the case to the Kpone police, where medical form was issued to him to attend hospital for treatment and the truck impounded for investigation.

A mechanic, who is a witness in the case, was called to examine the truck and told the police that there was nothing wrong with the truck.

Chief Inspector Adu said based on the examination the accused person was escorted to the Community 18 Police station and the complainant later reported to the police and statements were taken.
