Cocoa thief sentenced to 12 months in jail

Agona Swedru, May 24, GNA - Kwame Aidoo, a farmer at Agona Armah near Agona Swedru, described by the Police as a notorious cocoa thief has been jailed to a 12-month prison term for stealing a bag of cocoa. Detective Inspector R. A. Boamah, told the court presided by Mr Charles A. Wilson that the accused, who pleaded guilty to the charge of stealing stayed in the same village with the complainant. He said on 9th May 2007, at midnight the complainant heard an unusual noise in the center of his compound where cocoa beans were being dried.

The prosecution said the complainant saw the accused bagging the cocoa beans and he raised an alarm and with the assistance of some people in the village, Kwame Aidoo was apprehended and handed over to the Agona Nyakrom Police and charged with offence.
