Car tracking device exposes 2 suspects

A car tracking device has led to the arrest of two suspects, who allegedly broke into a house at Chantan near Achimota Mile ‘7’ in Accra on Tuesday.

Kwabena Sam, a 38-year-old- trader, and Daniel Botwe, 29, driver, were reported to have conspired and stole a taxi cab, three mobile phones and GH¢610 from their victims.

The Mile ‘7’ District Police Commander, Superintendent Yussif Tanko, who confirmed the arrest to The Ghanaian Times in Accra on Tuesday, said that the suspects were in police custody assisting in investigations.

He said at about 6:15am on April 30, the complainant, Jeremiah Ofori, resident of Chantan, reported to the Police that thieves broke into this house and stole three Samsung mobile phones- GHs610.00- and a Toyota Corolla XRS taxi cab with registration number GR 6117-17, which was parked in front of the house.

Supt Tanko said with the aid of a car tracking device, the police traced the vehicle to Danfa in Adenta in Accra, and saw the suspects on board the vehicle.

The Police Commander said Sam was arrested, but his accomplice escaped adding that “Two of the mobile phones were retrieved together with the taxi cab and GHs405.”

’Supt Tanko indicated that on May 1, at about 12; 45 pm, residents of Chantan arrested Botwe at the vicinity and handed him over to the Mile ‘7’ Police.

The Police Commander said the suspects would be arraigned for unlawful entry and stealing.

He cautioned the public, especially drivers, to install car tracking devices in the vehicles.

Supt Tanko also appealed to the public to volunteer information to the police to prevent crime.
