A 37-year-old suspected cable thief was brutally beaten and left for dead by irate youths at Ajinba School Junction, near the Takoradi Cemetery in the Western Region.
According to eyewitnesses, the suspect was caught stealing cables on Saturday, August 9, 2025, and was subsequently assaulted by the youths until he was left in critical condition.
The incident has sparked concerns over the growing trend of vigilantism in the area. Witnesses told OTEC News Reporter Kwame Agyenim that cable thieves have been terrorizing residents, particularly cold store operators, in recent weeks.
Residents said they alerted the youths, who took matters into their own hands and apprehended the suspect before beating him severely. His current condition remains unknown, though eyewitnesses described it as critical.
Authorities have urged the community to allow the law to take its course, warning that acts of vigilantism can lead to more harm and undermine the justice system.
