The Northern Regional Police Command has charged 28-year-old Tetteh Tanko with murder.

Tetteh Tanko was arrested on January 26.

Before his arrest, he was a ring leader in the chieftaincy dispute between the Jafok and Jamong families in Bunkpurugu in the Northern Region.

He is alleged to have murdered one Baba in April 2015 and fled to neighbouring Togo but was nabbed upon a tip-off days after renewed clashes between the two feuding families early this year.

Northern Regional Police Public Relations Officer ASP Ebenezer Tetteh in an interview with TV3 confirmed his arrest and said the murder charge against him was an advice from the Attorney General.

Tetteh Tanko's recent victim was farmer Suapaak Dupaak, 58, whose murder was during last month's clashes, which also led to the death of two other persons.

Tanko will soon be arraigned before court, ASP Tetteh indicated.

Three persons were killed during the January clashes with about 35 houses burnt while about 200 residents.

The January clashes bring the death toll around the crisis to five with eighty six houses burnt between November and January.

The Jamong family is challenging the legitimacy of Chief Abuba, Paramount Chief of Bunkpurugu, over his occupancy to the skin.
