Bongo killer jailed

The Bongo Magistrate Court presided over by Vivian Yamusah, yesterday sentenced the escapee murder suspect, Anyegre Atinga-Dombire alias Labista to an 18-month prison term for escaping from a police cell at Bongo.

Labista, who was in police custody following the alleged killing of Ayuah Atinga, escaped from detention on September 16, 2013.

However, the suspect is to reappear before the court on October 23, 2013 for the substantive case of murder.

Ahead of his reappearance, the suspect’s docket is expected to be forwarded to the Attorney General’s Office for advice and possibly make arrangements to get the case transferred to a higher court.

The suspect’s parents and two other persons who were all arrested and charged for aiding and abetting his escape were all in the court. They were all granted bail at the sum of GHc1000 each.

The last time the Bongo Magistrate Court called Anyegre Atinga-Dombire’s case on September 25, the police could not produce him, because he had escaped and the case was adjourned to yesterday by which time the court had expected the police to produce the suspect.

The murder suspect was subsequently arrested in Burkina Faso.

Presenting the facts of the case, Police Prosecutor Nelson Y. Zan said the suspect, Anyegre Atinga-Dombire on August 20, 2013, allegedly stabbed Ayuah Atinga, after a misunderstanding at Bongo Soe market, which led to his death.

DAILY GUIDE gathered that after the incident, the suspect bolted and was only arrested on September 5, 2013 from a house at Bongo, where he had been hiding.

He was quickly arraigned at the Bongo Magistrate Court and was remanded to reappear on September 18, 2013.

Two days to the court day, the murder suspect managed to escape from the Bongo Police cells. The police therefore came to court without him and pleaded for time to produce the suspect.

One of the police officers, who went in search for the suspect, said he was very happy and commended the police in Burkina-Faso who helped them in arresting the suspect. He was arrested at Zio in Burkina-Faso.
