Bicycle repairer jailed 15 years for defiling niece

Bawku(UER), April 20, GNA - A Bawku Circuit court has sentenced a 28-year-old bicycle repairer, Madi Haruna on his own plea, to 15 years imprisonment for defiling his 15-year-old primary five niece at Bawku. Police Inspector Dentis Atigsika, prosecuting told the court presided over by Mr Alex Owusu Ofori that the accused was the junior brother of the victim's father and reside in different houses at Gingande, a suburb of Bawku.

He said on Wednesday April 12, at about 0830 hours, the victim was sent by her mother to fetch water from a nearby well. Police Inspector Atigsika said the accused met the victim and invited her under the pretext of sending her to buy food for him but lured her into his room and defiled her.

He said when the victim returned home, she was questioned about her long stay and the change in her movement, the victim informed her parents that the accused had defiled her.

The prosecution said the matter was reported to the police and a medical form issued to the victim to attend hospital and after investigations the accused was charged with the offence.
