Banker sues employers for wrongful dismissal

Agona Swedru (C/R), Sept. 22, GNA - The Agona Swedru High Court has adjourned till November 1, the case in which Mr. Philip Patrick Quartey, a former Agona Swedru Branch Manager of the Union Rural Bank Limited, has filed a civil suit against his employers for wrongful indefinite suspension of his appointment without pay about a year ago. The plaintiff is claiming 50,000 Ghana Cedis damages from his employers for emotional stress and embarrassment caused by the suspension.

In his statement of claim, Mr. Quartey said on the evening of October 27th, 2007, he received a telephone call from the Acting General Manager of the Bank that there would be an inspection of Bank by an official from the Bank of Ghana. The statement said the plaintiff officially informed the Acting General Manager of the Bank that he (plaintiff) had to urgently send his wife who was pregnant to see a Gynaecologist at a Hospital in Accra the morning of the day of inspection.

The statement said Mr Ouartey told the Acting General Manager that his next in command at the Bank would be present for the inspection to be carried out and left for Accra. It said plaintiff on October 30, received the letter of suspension from the Acting General Manager. The statement said all attempts to get Mr Quartey reinstated by the management of the Bank had proved futile.
