The Western Central Regional Police Command has arrested the Assembly Member for the Tarkwa Bremang Electoral Area, Isaac Duku, popularly known as Agoogi, for allegedly engaging in illegal mining and unlawfully diversion of a public road to his private property.

The arrest took place on Saturday, July 19, 2025, at Dortaso near Tarkwa, after residents filed a complaint at the Bawdie Police Station on July 14.

The complainants accused the Assembly Member of diverting the main access road used by the community and conducting illegal mining activities on the rerouted section.

A press release issued by the police on July 21, 2025, confirmed the arrest and stated that the suspect is currently assisting with investigations.

“The suspect is in our custody and is cooperating with the ongoing investigations,” the statement said.

According to the police, preliminary findings suggest the road diversion was carried out without authorisation from any relevant authorities, and the site was being used for mining operations believed to be illegal.

The police have assured the public of their continued commitment to upholding the law and protecting the interests of affected communities.
