Asokwa Police hunt for gang who vandalised hospital facility

The Asokwa police in Kumasi have mounted a search for some unidentified persons who vandalised a health facility under construction at Konkori in the Atwima-Kwanwoma district.

The facility, which was initiated by World Vision International (WVI), is almost completed but the gang had vandalised parts of the building and destroyed all the electrical installations and the ceiling for unknown reasons.

Mr Kwadwo Owusu, Unit Committee Chairman of the town, who briefed the Ghana News Agency at Konkori said, so far over GH¢15,000 worth of property had been destroyed by the gang.

He said the people realised the destruction on Thursday morning when they decided to embark on a communal labour at the project site.

Mr Owusu said the community had taken over the project to complete it with their own resources as a result of the inability of WVI to complete it for them.

The destruction would bring untold financial burden on the community.

The Member of Parliament for the area, Dr Kojo Appiah Kubi, told the GNA that he had so far spent about GH¢50,000 on the project and appealed to the opinion leaders in the community to be more vigilant to prevent further destruction or loss on the project.

He pledged to continue looking for funds to complete the project on time to serve the people in the communities and its environs.

Mr Simon Denteh, District Crime Officer for the Asokwa Police, confirmed the story and said no arrest has been made as investigation was on-going and appealed to people in the community with information to assist the police.
