Asankrangwa Police gets tough with robbers

Asankrangwa (W/R), May 24, GNA - Mr Adu Ayitey, the Asankrangwa District Police Commander, on Monday assured the public that the Police was working hard to check the upsurge in robbery in the area. He gave the assurance in an interview on four recent robberies at Asankrangwa with the Ghana News Agency at Asankrangwa.

Mr Ayitey, a Deputy Commissioner of Police (DSP), appealed to the public to assist the police by volunteering information on suspected armed robbers and other criminals.

"The Police can be ineffective without information from the public". Mr Ayitey said the police was constrained by insufficient personnel who had to go on both day and night duties.

''The police also lack vehicles. The only vehicle the District Police has broke down about 18 months ago and is at the workshop in Accra.''

Mr Ayitey said there were four armed robberies at Asankrangwa recently and in one, robbers attacked a petrol filling station and made away with 24 million cedis.
