Armed robbery foiled at Community 18, one suspect arrested with gunshot wound

A swift response by a police patrol team from the Baatsonaa Division in the early hours of Monday August 4, 2025, led to the arrest of a suspected armed robber during a daring robbery incident at Community 18 District.

The incident occurred at approximately 3:20 AM near the Klagon-Ashaiman underbridge, where four armed men on two motorbikes attacked and robbed a pedestrian, identified as Reuben Ayiku.

The robbers reportedly made away with Ayiku’s mobile phone and a wallet containing an undisclosed amount of money.

Fortunately, a police patrol team stationed nearby witnessed the attack and immediately pursued the assailants.

According to a police statement; “The chase ended at Shalom Spot, where the officers managed to apprehend one of the suspects after a brief confrontation.”

The suspect, 23-year-old Francis Debrah, was found wielding a long, sharp knife and refused to surrender, prompting the police to disarm him by shooting him in the left arm.

“He was subsequently overpowered and arrested with assistance from the victim. Debrah was rushed to the Police Hospital for medical treatment under armed guard.

“Two Royal motorbikes believed to have been used in the robbery were retrieved at the scene. However, the other three suspects managed to escape and are currently on the run,” the statement added.

The Baatsonaa Divisional Police Command has urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity, especially in early morning hours when such attacks are more likely to occur.
