Armed robbers descend on Juaso

Juaso (Ash), Dec 14, GNA - Residents of Juaso, the District capital of Asante-Akim South and its environs, are living in fear and anxiety following a series of armed robbery attacks recently. In two months, seven robberies have been recorded in Juaso and Atwedie.

Two persons were shot at a filling station in Atwedie in the latest incident last Saturday where the robbers took away five million cedis and four mobile phones.

While one of the victims is receiving treatment at the Juaso District Hospital the other who was shot in the abdomen was referred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi in critical condition.

That same night the robbers also held hostage District Director of Education, Mr Fabian Belieb, for several minutes and tortured him to tell them where he kept his money but to no avail. They took away his official vehicle but later abandoned it between Nkawkaw and Akuase in the Eastern region.

The attack on the Education Director that came two weeks after an accountant of the education directorate was robbed. The District Police Commander Superintendent Francis Agrippa Oppong urged the public to remain calm as the police worked around the clock to combat the menace.

He told the Ghana News Agency that as part of efforts to arrest the situation, the district assembly had released a double cabin pick-up vehicle to the police for patrols.
