Armed robber to serve 12 years

One of the two armed robbers who took four students hostage and robbed them of their personal belongings has been sentenced to 12 years imprisonment in hard labour by a Cape Coast Circuit Court.

The convict, Kwabena Ebo Ewusie pleaded not guilty to robbery.

Police Chief Inspector Charles Yaw Anku told the Court that the complainants, all students of the University of Cape Coast, are Messrs Bright Asante, Emmanuel Ansah, Ahorlu Dennis Mawuli and Emmanuel Adu-Gyamfi, who were residents of a private hostel at Amamoma near the University’s campus.

He said on Tuesday December 17, 2013 at about 0300 hours, Ewusie and his accomplice, Kwesi Awoyo, currently on the run, armed with a locally manufactured pistol, broke into the rooms of the students and held them hostage.

They took from them four different brands of laptop computers, six mobile phones and assorted clothes, all valued at GH? 15,000.00 and sought to flee the hostel.

Chief Inspector Anku said the students immediately raised the alarm which attracted other students to the scene who helped to chase the two robbers.

Ewusie was eventually arrested and the two laptop, two mobile phones and a locally manufactured pistol were retrieved from him.

He was handed over to the police but Awoyo managed to escape.
