Armed men rob BAT cigarette distributors

Hohoe, May 28, GNA-Three armed robbers on Tuesday robbed the Hohoe-based Wally Chums Limited, local distributors of British American Tobacco (BAT) Company and bolted with sales amounting to GH¢ 2,796. The robbers, who got away in the movie fashion, in a waiting car, initially requested to buy some cigarette products from Mr Nicodemus Gblormashie, the Depot keeper, who was then checking the previous weekly sales at about 1100 hours.

He told the Ghana News Agency that one of the robbers requested to buy two cartons of the product and as he bent to serve him, two of his colleagues at gunpoint gathered all the monies on the table and bolted. Mr Gblormashie said an attempt to resist the robbery was thwarted when he was pushed forcibly under the tables and fled towards the Saint Teresa's direction.

Mr Daniel Ablodey, Hohoe District Police Commander, who corroborated the robbery appealed to the general public to assist the Police by volunteering vital information and leads that would help the security apparatus combat and bust crime. He said crime, including armed robbery was becoming sophisticated and syndicated and the Police would rely on the co-operation of the public to stem the case.

Mr Ablodey said investigation was underway but urged the public to take security issues seriously.
