Armed Robbers Kill Father Of Eight

Six armed robbers shot one dead and wounded another when they struck at Ablekuma near Accra over the weekend. Stephen Mintah, a driver, was shot dead by the robbers who rejected the ?8,000 ($1) he offered them to spare his life. Mintah, a father of eight, was shot twice in the head.

The robbers broke into a room of the Mintah household through their back door at about 2.30 am. Mrs Vida Mintah said her husband went out of his bedroom to find out what was happening and was confronted by the robbers. They then ordered him to bring out all the money in the house. “One in a mask entered my room and ordered the children and me into the sitting room where my husband has been held at gunpoint,” she said.

Mrs Mintah said her husband asked the robbers to take away all their belongings since he was very poor and had no money. They then offered the robbers the ?8,000 they had in the house at that time, but the amount infuriated the robbers who shot the man twice in the head. The robbers then fled with the deceased’s mobile phone.

From the Mintah’s house, they went to a nearby house of an ex-soldier and forced the door open with a six-inch block. On hearing the noise, the man rushed out of the room into the sitting room, but was shot in the left-arm.
