Apprentice jailed for stealing cables

Aflao, April 16, GNA- A circuit court at Aflao on Wednesday jailed Saviour Anani, 22, a radio mechanic apprentice, four years in hard labour for stealing telecommunication cables worth 1237.00 Ghana cedis belonging to the Ghana Telecom (GT) He pleaded not guilty to stealing.

Police Inspector Mary Assan, told the court presided over by Group-Captain Martin Obeng-Ntim (rtd) that about 0200 hours on January 4, this year, a student of the University of Cape Coast and a member of the area watch committee, spotted Anani busily curling some cables at the Second Low Cost Area at Aflao. Prosecution said Anani bolted with the cables when he saw the complainant approaching.

Inspector Assan said the student pursued Anani and he took cover in a vegetable farm adjacent to the residence of the Afloa sector Commander of Customs Excise and Preventive Services (CEPS). Prosecutions said a CEPS officer on duty saw Anani enter the farm and helped the complainant to arrest and escort him (Anani) to the police station.
