A suspect linked to the shooting and killing of 23-year-old Abdul Salam during a demolition exercise at Akwatia Line on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, has been remanded into police custody.

The violence erupted when Umar Abdullahi claimed ownership of the land under litigation.

He reportedly visited the site with armed police officers to carry out the demolition exercise.

According to eyewitnesses, the officers fired a warning shot to control the crowd.

Umar Abdullahi reportedly discharged a weapon during the confrontation, leading to the death of Abdul Salam, while two others sustained injuries.

Three of the suspects were granted bail by the court, while Umar Abdullahi was remanded into prison custody.

He is expected to reappear before the court on Thursday, April 17, 2026.
